THE SEEMANTA ENGINEERING COLLEDGE, a leading Technical Institution in the state of ORISSA which strategically located at Jharpokharia in the district of Mayurbhanj at the confluence of N.H.5 & 6 situated at about 35 kms from Baripada, the District Headquarter of Mayurbhanj, is approachable by road from all parts of state of Orissa and from outside states via Jamshedpur, Kharagpur & Balasore. The campus of the college is surrounded by serene villages and green meadows, the place provides an excellent venue for academic pursuits .

The Seemanta Engineering college was established is 1997 by Seemanta Mahavidyalaya Samiti. The Samiti, setup since 1978 is responsible for developing, Jharpokharia in to an educational complex with five institutions namely (i)Seemanta Mahavidyalaya (ii)Seemanta Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, (iii) Seemanta ITI, (iv)Seemanta Engineering college, (v) Seemanta English Medium School and thus has made a big stride to spread higher and Technical Education. The Seemanta Engineering college had a modest beginning with three discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Computer Sc.& Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication engineering with 180 student on the roll, 60 students in each discipline. Since then, the college has made a steady progress and by virtue of continuous endeavor, at present it incorporates in the curriculum of Six Engineering disciplines with an intake capacity of 390 students.

The Seemanta Engineering College is an approved Institute by AICTE, New Delhi and by the Govt. of Orissa. It is affiliated to North Orissa University and to Biju Pattnaik University of Technology, Rourkela with respect to academic programme. Because of the adequate infrastructure and academic excellence, the AICTE has given approval for THREE YEARS at a stretch for the period 2002-2005, witch is rare achievement. And yet the free Structures is the lowest among all the Private Engineering Colleges of Orissa. Moreover here is also provision for scholarship to meritorious student and semi-free studentship to deserving J.E.E. Candidates.

The 1st batch of students graduate in the year 2001 the 2nd batch in 2002, the 3rd batch in 2003 and are now placed in different technical sectors within and out side the country.

In order to produce quality Engineering in terms of World standard the college has developed Central Computerised Library with reading room facility, well furnished laboratories in each department. Computer laboratory as per the stake of art and Internet facility through VSAT WELL Equipped Workshop, Separate Hostels for boys and girls inside the campus, Transport facility, Canteen, student's playground, Seminar Hall, various teaching aids etc. Besides, the college has qualified and trained faculty who are committed to deliver quality education to the student. Moreover in order to strengthen teachings, eminent teachers from various well known Institutes such as IIT, Kharagpur, NIT, Rourkela, RIT Jamshedpur come to Seemanta Engineering College as visiting professors.

During the year (2003-2004) 3 reputed companies programmed to this college for Campus Interview. 36 students have already been selected through campus and have been assured to get employment.

The S.E.C. is the institution where meritorious students get admitted in free seats and semi-free seats and received scholarship. The College admits students not only from Orissa but also from the neighboring states of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar and this way it is an important institution in the Eastern Region.
